Secondary Sport - Term 3, 2020
It has been a busy term in the Secondary Sports Department, with a variety of competitions, including BOSL, CSSAQ and Met Finals, across a number of sports such as volleyball, netball, basketball and soccer. The conclusion of several sporting competitions has seen some great results for Northside teams.
It has been a great term for our College netball teams with BOSNL, CSSAQ, Super 7’s and Met Finals. Our Intermediate team had consistently strong games and were BOSL Champions, while the Senior Netball team placed 3rd in their competition. Congratulations to Lucy Smith and Holly Castle who were named on the BOS All Stars Intermediate team.
Our Year 9/10 team won the Intermediate Division of the CSSAQ competition, and our Year 7/8 team were Runners Up in the Cadet Division 1. Congratulations to Lucy Fyffe who was awarded an umpire’s prize for her composure in closely contested games.
Met Finals saw our Year 9 and 10 teams playing in some fiercely competitive games as they progressed through the competition. Our Year 9 team did exceptionally well, defeating Mitchelton State High School, Wavell State High and Centenary State High on their way to the grand final, which they lost to Cavendish Road. Our Met Finals rounds against Mitchie had some other unexpected and very special outcomes, with a training partnership being formed between our teams and Mitchelton’s teams. We have already facilitated one training session, and others have been planned. We are looking forward to further developing this relationship and believe God has great things in store for us as we continue to explore the opportunities He is providing us through sport.
Our basketball teams have enjoyed the ‘Top of the North’ competition (in lieu of their normal BOSL season). Our Senior Boys team were Runners Up in the competition and Senior Girls won the grand final in nail-biting fashion, taking the clock into overtime.
Teams have also done well in the Met Finals, with our Year 10 boys finishing runners up in the grand final.
Our Junior Boys and Girls soccer teams enjoyed a modified BOSL competition. The Junior Boys team were convincing BOSL champions.
Our soccer teams also participated in the CSSAQ gala days. Our girls teams shone, with the Junior Girls finishing Runners Up, and the Senior Girls winning the championship!!
Our senior volleyball teams enjoyed a modified BOSL season, with three rounds of competition. Special mention to our Senior Boys team who narrowly missed the finals.
