For our 35th anniversary year, our College yearbook was restructured into our five Northside values: faith, learning, excellence, character, community.

Deputy Principal Mrs June Van der Ham shared the following message for our yearbook, through the lens of excellence.

Deputy Principal

Excellence is about contributing our best to the world while encouraging others to do the same. Excellence lies in the hearts of all who motivate others by mentoring, supporting, exemplifying and giving back.

Passion and high standards are at the core of excellence as excellence implies striving for quality.

Excellence is seen in the creative and innovative programs offered throughout the College which require both a boldness to discover and a willingness to be comfortable to not know all of the answers. These programs motivate students to have the perseverance to stick at it; commitment to a task is especially important during challenging times when the going gets tough.

In striving for quality we achieve excellence.
Dané Erasmus (alumni 2016), spoke to Year 10 students during a careers session, and stated:
“In anything that we do no matter how big or small, do it to the best of our ability”.

Studies have shown that the most important way to achieve excellent performance in sport, music and studies is to practice. In our curricular and co-curricular program development, the essential elements of deliberate practice, specific goals to improve performance and successive refinement through repetition, feedback and instruction are considered and implemented.

Through student leadership programs, chapels, musicals and sporting programs, excellence isn’t measured solely by success, or by how much is gained but rather is about contributing our best and encouraging others to do the same. If our relationships with others are to be characterised by excellence, living a life of integrity is integral. Our actions must align with our words. When you have integrity your word means something and people can depend on you to do what you say.

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Philippians 4:8
