Subject Selection Years 7-12

In Year 7, students are supported by a core teacher for several subjects and typically learn in a homeroom environment, helping them transition smoothly from Junior School. As they move into Year 8, they begin to experience more independence—rotating between classrooms, learning from different subject specialists, and taking increasing responsibility for their learning.

By Year 9, students continue with five core subjects while beginning to explore areas of personal interest through a selection of six electives. This structure allows them to start identifying potential future pathways while still receiving a broad academic base.

In Year 10, students further refine their subject choices in preparation for Senior Secondary studies. They continue with core curriculum while selecting electives that align with their strengths, interests and potential future careers. Students also take part in career development programs and may be introduced to Vocational Education and Training (VET) or university preparation opportunities.

Year 11 marks the start of their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) journey. Students commit to General, Applied, or VET subjects that contribute to their QCE and possible ATAR. They are supported through tailored academic mentoring, study skills development, and pastoral care to help them manage the increased academic and personal responsibilities.

This carefully designed progression through the Secondary Years equips students with the skills, confidence and direction they need to thrive in Year 12 and beyond.
