Northside Christian College provides opportunities for senior students to engage in nationally-recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) certificate courses with a range of providers.

TAFE Queensland is the largest provider of VET in the state and is currently open to applications for certificate courses commencing in 2019. Students in Year 11or 12 in 2019 may apply for Certificate courses in a wide range of areas such as health and community services, building and construction, electrotechnology and applied science. You can access more information about TAFE courses by visiting https://tafeqld.edu.au/assets/oneweb/PDF/course-guides/2019/2019-greater-brisbane-tafe-at-school-course-guide.pdf.

Students undertake VET certificates for a number of reasons so regardless of whether your son or daughter wants to get a qualification while they are still at school, secure direct entry into a Diploma course, gain extra credits toward the QCE, forge a pathway towards tertiary study, or just to make them work-ready by building practical skills, consider a VET certificate course. To make enquiries about how your son or daughter can integrate a VET certificate into their senior studies, please contact NCC Student Services on (07) 3353 1266 to make an appointment.

Parent Feedback (edited for anonymity):

It is with absolute delight that we advise that [Student Name] has secured a Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanic apprenticeship for next year, at [Workplace Name], commencing on the 29th of January 2019.  This is the organisation where he has been undertaking his Structured Workplace Learning throughout Year 11 and 12.  After undertaking the written assessments, workshop assessment, interviews and medical examination he signed the final contract this week.  We are unsure of the number of applicants this year but last year we know there were over 300 applications for 3 positions. This is an outstanding organisation in terms of training, education, safety and culture.

As a family we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Northside for your support of [Student Name]'s endeavour to commence a trade based career after completing school. Whilst we know that God blesses us richly with different gifts and equips us with all we need, this can often be difficult for students to understand when academics are often regarded as being the preferred or higher option, especially when it is not your area of expertise.  Northside is to be commended for recognising that every child is different and for enabling students like [Student Name] to feel that it is okay to not go down the academic path but to pursue their field of interest.  We would like to specifically mention your kindness Scott in supporting and encouraging [Student Name] as an individual and also for normalising the vocational path for students like him so they don't feel excluded from other students.  Scott your advice and wisdom in guiding [Student Name] has been invaluable and is very much appreciated by us as parents.

We are super proud of [Student Name] for pursuing his passion, engines have been his interest since he was a little boy. The unpaid work experience on his holidays, early starts, commitment he has shown to learning in the workplace and most importantly lots of prayer, have all come together with plans to prosper him and to give him hope and a future.  This could not have been achieved without the underlying support of Northside and for this we are so very grateful. [Our] family are all praising God with thankful hearts!
