National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. The school theme of National Science Week 2020 is Deep Blue: innovations for the future of our oceans.

National Science Week provides an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of Australian scientists to the world of knowledge. It also aims to encourage an interest in science pursuits.  This year, perhaps more than ever before, National Science Week will be an opportunity to reflect on the lifesaving work done on our behalf by STEM professionals. This includes the medical researchers and health professionals combating the pandemic, as well as the fire propagation modellers, meteorologists and others who worked behind the scenes during the bushfires last summer.

In week 6, Northside will be celebrating Science Week with a range of activities held throughout the week including:

  • Lectures on Genetics, Infectious Disease and Psychology
  • Science demonstrations and experiment
  • Science Comedy Sketch by Perform Education
  • Escape Room
  • Zoom Meet “A day in the life of a marine biologist” from Moreton Bay Marine Station
  • Information session on STEM careers in Defence
  • Science trivia contest
  • Museum displays
  • Interactive media
  • The year 7’s will also have an opportunity to participate in the Future Brisbane Challenge facilitated by Brisbane City Council.
