Northside to Reopen on Tuesday
I hope you are safe and dry after a rollercoaster 5 days of Cyclone Alfred wind and rain.
After 5 days of waiting, our campus is ready to reopen tomorrow (Tuesday) for normal classes.
No doubt we will have many stories to share of lost power, water and communications. I do know some families have suffered damage to their home and our heart is with you at this most difficult time.
Our Operations and IT teams have been on campus today making the campus safe and bringing the IT servers back online.
Tomorrow we will begin all classes as per normal, while realising that some families may still be blocked by flood waters. If you are unable to make it to campus tomorrow, please use the normal absentee protocols.
We look forward to welcoming you back on campus in the morning.

To our Northside Family
We hope that you are safe and dry as the deluge of rain continues.
Northside Christian College will remain closed on Monday. The campus is without power and some parts of the campus needs debris to be removed by staff, when it is safe to do so.
We are aware that many staff and families remain without electricity and communication access, and some have moved to stay with family and friends.
We ask for your assistance to share this announcement.
We plan for College classes to resume on Tuesday, it will be confirmed on Monday afternoon.
With love and prayers to you and your family.

School Closure Announcement
This morning, the Premier announced the closure of schools due to Cyclone Alfred.
Northside Christian College and Next Steps Kindy will be closed Thursday and Friday.
This is a total closure of all campus activities for the rest of the week. No staff will be on campus, and we request that nobody come onto the campus after today.
Depending on the impact of the cyclone, we plan to provide an update mid-afternoon on Sunday, as to any possible re-opening of the College and Next Steps Kindy.
There is lots of information out there and this link will take you to the latest advice from the Queensland Government.
Northside will also use the following link to communicate whether our school is open or closed https://closures.qld.edu.au/
Forward Planning
As the cyclone impacts Brisbane, please note that it is probable that due to extreme weather, power outages, and high demand on our systems, there may be difficulties in sending messages via our usual communication channels, including the Parent Orbit App and email.
In these circumstances, for updates please check:

Tips for Talking with children from Dr Vanessa Lapointe
- Turn off the news (especially in earshot of your kids).
- Instead, choose a few official pages/channels/apps from government/emergency services agencies, from which to get your key information about the cyclone.
- Being prepared can help us feel less anxious. Take practical steps to make sure you and your home are as prepared as you can be (there is lots of information out there from SES and the government to support you in getting ready).
- Check on any vulnerable neighbours if you can and help them prepare (and maybe get the kids involved). Kindness to others can take our minds off our own stress.
- Above all, please try not to get too absorbed in social media because as well as being a great source of local info, it can feed a feeling of anxiety and emotional contagion.
With love and prayers to you and your family for the days ahead.
