Who We Are

Vision

We work to intentionally raise up future leaders. Located in North Brisbane, Northside Christian College is a leader in Christian education, preparing students who will be transformational in their spheres of influence.

Mission

We are daily committed to our mission, which is: ‘To make disciples of Jesus Christ, educated and equipped for any future.’

Christian Values

To illustrate the ‘Spirit of Northside,' we look to the Christian values that influence our behaviours and form the College culture.

Faith

Faith in Christ is seen as the foundation to life. Each student is provided with the opportunity to understand the teaching of the Scriptures and to become a follower of Jesus Christ in both belief and action. Faith is a way of life that impacts behaviour.

Learning

Using National Curriculum with a Christian worldview, students are provided with varied opportunities through classroom, co-curricular and pastoral care programs that facilitate and inspire learning now and encourage a desire to continue learning in the future.

Excellence in Christian Education

Each member of the community is called upon to do their best in all circumstances and to maximise their God-given talents. Our approach to teaching, learning and relationships is characterised by a spirit of excellence.

Christ-like Character

We value the development of strong character through faith, and value the qualities of honesty, courage, resilience, humility, respect and responsibility.

Christian Community

We are a caring, learning, encouraging, faith-based community focused around students, staff and parents, and extending to grandparents, sister schools and other members of the wider community.

Christian Education in Brisbane

At Northside Christian College, we believe that a Christian is a person who has made Jesus Christ both Saviour and Lord of his/her life. That is, a Christian is a person who:

  • believes that Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, died and rose again
  • has recognised his/her sinful condition
  • has received forgiveness of his/her sins through faith in Jesus Christ and
  • seeks to live his/her life in obedience to God’s Word.

Christianity is, in essence, an ongoing relationship with God – not just a Sunday morning event, but a way of life.

Faith-based Christian School

Although the majority students come from the Australian Christian Churches, formerly known as Assemblies of God (AOG), the Northside Christian College school community is enriched by students from more than 100 churches of various denominations. These include, Baptist, Catholic, Anglican, Uniting Church of Australia, Lutheran, Non-denominational, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Reformed Churches, and Wesleyan Methodist.

The style of worship at the College is contemporary. As far as possible, students are the musicians, singers and leaders of worship and chapels.

Christian Teachers

All teaching staff are fully qualified to teach and are registered with the Queensland College of Teachers.

It is an expectation that all employees at Northside Christian College are committed Christians and are actively attending a local Christian Church. We believe that values and lifestyles are more ‘caught than taught’. Our staff are able to role model the Christian life for our students.

College Principal, Northside Christian College

Mr. Leighton Kuss

Mr Leighton Kuss, Principal of Northside Christian CollegeFor over thirty years, Northside Christian College has nurtured young lives, making disciples of Jesus Christ, educated and equipped for any future. It is a privilege and joy to witness children grow, learn and achieve their full potential in God.

Northside is different.

At the centre of everything we do as a community is a love for Jesus Christ. He is the reason the College exists, and following him is the unifying force among our staff and families. The College was born out of a desire to create an environment that fosters rich and respectful collaboration between children’s most important influencers: parents, church and school.

Our students thrive—body, soul, and spirit—in an educational setting that caters to a wide variety of interests and needs. Approachable, dedicated staff and a safe, supportive community help children flourish. We equip our students to think well, believe strongly, strive for excellence and practise personal integrity.

We care, most of all, what kind of person each young man and woman becomes.

History and Governance

Northside Christian College was founded in 1985 as a ministry of Nexus Church (formerly Northside Christian Church) in order to provide a high quality education that would partner with and support the values of Christian families.

Read reflections from the founding Pastor, John Lewis.

The Directors of Northside are appointed by Nexus Church and are responsible for the spiritual, legal and financial oversight of the College. Managerial responsibility for the College’s operations is delegated by the Directors to the Principal.
